Loving Friend

- Written by Ali Warren

My heart is over flowing with grief over the untimely death of our beloved Mitch. In watching the out pour of support to Sarah and the Underhills, I don't think Mitch could have known how truly loved he was by so, so many people. He was an incredibly bright light. His zest for life contagious. His love of his family inspiring. His passion for the wilderness brave and unending. His goodness of spirit unforgettable.

Brenton and I almost lost our daughter, Tatum, 6 years ago. She suffered a major stroke at three weeks old and the doctors did not think she would live through the brain surgery. There are a handful of friends who drove all the way to UC Davis to support us that night. Sarah and Mitch were some of those people. I remember feeling buoyed by their presence. I'll never forget Mitch's look of worry and concern for Tatum. He continued to be supportive and present through our long and worrisome journey with Tatum. We will do the same for Sarah, Mason and Cedar and the Underhill family.

We LOVE YOU MITCH!

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.
